HENDRY, LEE posted by Betty Hendry George on Sunday, October 5, 1997

I am searching for information regarding Ann LEE who was born 26 Dec 1752 in Black River Settlement, New Hanover County, NC. She married Robert HENDRY in New Hanover County Feb 1778. All nine of their children were born in New Hanover County. The family moved to Georgia in 1796. Ann LEE died 31 May 1834 at Taylor's Creek, GA. I have been told that her dates do not match with that of Light-Horse Harry Lee nor Robert E. Lee. The only other name I have as possibly her father is Thomas LEE who was located in Onslow County in 1713. Ann's mother's name was also Ann.

MURRAY posted by Ernie Murray on Thursday, November 6, 1997

I have a few tidbits on Thomas MURRAY for anyone interested in the subject of my query. Also, the part of New Hanover in which Holly Shelter Creek was located is now in Pender County, so the folks in Pender might also be interested in the question.

PENDARVIS, PENDARYIS, PENDROY posted by Cindy Loiacano on Tuesday, November 25, 1997

I saw your county name and thought you might be able to help me as your county name is close to my maiden name. According to our family records your county name is one of the derivitives of our name. I am looking for information on our family. According to family records, our ancesters arrived in 1675 in the Carolina's. I am trying to track them back to England and thought if I could find the name in a ship's manifest that it may help to determine where they came from. My maiden name is PENDROY, but I have seen family records that indicate that it may have been "PENDARVIS or PENDARYIS". A letter from a distant cousin said that the story is that my ancesters were a part of the ruling class of England. They were sent to Ireland to rule there, but got tired of being in constant fear for their lives so they immigrated to America in 1675. Any information that you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

BUTLER posted by Charlie Weaver on Sunday, December 21, 1997

I hope I'm not disturbing the system by asking for your assistance directly. I am trying to learn something about a road name in Pender Co NC which nobody in the area (I have visited & talked to a knowledgeable 'Old Timer' in the area) seems to have heard of. Perhaps you can put me in touch with someone who knows or might know of a reference. A current NC county atlas book put out by DeLorme shows the road which comes out of Cypress Creek in Duplin Co and ends at NC 50 at Maple Hill in Pender is named "Blacksmith Shop Rd." No one in the area I asked about it, including Duplin geography expert Wellon Maready, had ever heard it called that. Now, I'm aware that these county atlas books can have many errors, but just on the chance that some reference somewhere showed the road with that name - I don't think DeLorme would just make it up - I thought perhaps someone in Pender would know of a reference. The reason I am 'chasing' this is that my ggg-gf, Elijah BUTLER, a resident of the area, was a blacksmith. He is listed in Cypress Creek twnshp in 1840 Duplin census, New Hanover, where I believe his shop was, in 1850, and Duplin again in 1860. If you know of someone who might have this reference, or the name of a person to call in the Pender Tax Office or R of D who has interest in this sort of thing, I would certainly appreciate receiving the info. Thank you.
