Douglas Earl Allen
Douglas Earl Allen, 84, of Holly Ridge, NC, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008 at
Universal Health Care in Raleigh, NC.
The family received friends Sunday at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel.
A funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead
Chapel by Rev. Terri Steed. Interment followed in Sea Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Douglas Allen's
memory to the American Farmland Trust, at www.farmland.org.

Crocker, Vira M.
Vira M. Crocker, 95, of Hubert died Sunday.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Enon Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev.
Jim Kelley officiating. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the Wilmington National Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Edith Purdie of Sandy Springs, Ga., and Phoebe
cCue of Largo, Fla.; a son, Robert E. Crocker of Swansboro; a brother, Rudolph
Parker of Thomaston, Ala.; a sister, Wynona Porch of Union Grove, Ala.; 10
grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Enon Chapel Baptist
Church, 101 Barbara Ave., Midway Park, NC 28544.

Janet Gaines, 79, of Jacksonville died Sunday at Craven Regional Medical Center in
New Bern.
She was the mother of Wendy McGill of Swansboro.

Janet Ruth Gaines November 30, 2008 JONES FUNERAL HOME
Jacksonville, NC – Janet Ruth Gaines, 79, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 at Britthaven
of Jacksonville, Jacksonville, NC.
Services will be announced at a later date.
Janet was born October 21, 1929 in Johnsonburg, PA and was the daughter of the
late Edward Q. and Zona Madge Blint Brown. She was also preceded in death by her
husband of 51years, Lewis Edwin Gaines.
She is survived by one daughter, Wendy McGill of Swansboro: one brother, Edward
Brown of Mercer, PA and one sister, Mary Louise Smith of Union City, many nieces
and nephews.

Barnes, Gertrude “Trudie” Harris
Gertrude Harris Barnes, 82, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008,
surrounded by her loving family. She was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Rutherford County, NC,
the daughter of the late Loyd and Carol Harris.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, who has touched many lives and
will be greatly missed.
Trudie graduated from Concord High School, Meredith College and served as a home
demonstration agent, kindergarten and Sunday school teacher, and worked for the
Raleigh Heart Fund. She also volunteered in many kitchens preparing food for church
and civic functions. Her angel biscuits, peanut brittle and love of angels will be missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Floyd P. Barnes. She is survived
by her sons Floyd P. (Buddy) Barnes, Jr. and wife Debbie, Charles W. Barnes and wife
Pam, Benjamin L. Barnes and wife Rhonda and Brian H. Barnes and wife Margaret
(Randy), eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by many
friends and extended church family members at Millbrook United Methodist Church.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and love to the staff at Mayview
Convalescent Center for the loving care and attention they provided to our mother.

Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC.
A funeral service was held at Millbrook United Methodist Church, 1712 E. Millbrook Road,
Raleigh, NC, on Tuesday, Nov. 25, with internment following at Sunset Gardens Cemetery
in Henderson, NC.

9 Mar 1905 in Atkinson, Pender County, NC, died on 7 Oct 1988 in Pender County, NC, at
